What to read to a child at the age of 7?
Has your child already started school and is gradually turning from a listener into an independent reader? Congratulations! This is a great reason to expand the children's library. Books for 7-year-old children are presented in a huge assortment. You will be able to find an option based on your child's interests and preferences.
There are many more books suitable for this age than you can imagine. And if you don't like some books for children recommended for this age, then put them aside for a while, maybe they will come to your liking in a year.
Features of books intended for 7-year-old readers
At the age of 6-7, junior school age comes. Such a child is already able to perceive rather complex and serious literature, read whole series of books. Educational books for children with an interesting, dynamic plot are still a priority.
A 6-7-year-old child can often choose what to read and it is worth supporting the choice, if it does not seem to you to be completely age-appropriate. To find interesting books for 7-year-old children, it is recommended to focus on the following points:
- horizon;
- interests;
- features of development;
- advantages in literature.
What a schoolboy who lives in the village knows can be difficult and not close to a student who lives in the city.
At the same time, it is also necessary to expand the child's horizons, to show him that people who are not like him can live in other countries and cities, but they are just as worthy of respect and acceptance. The main thing is to find a balance between educational literature and entertainment, which should also not be neglected in order to instill in the child a love and interest in reading.
How to choose a book?
By the age of 6-7, a young reader may have his favorite writers, preferences in genres. Some of the children want the hero of the work to be of the same gender, some may prefer completely adult and scary stories, and some children will still be creepy just at the mention of an evil wizard.
The book recommendations by age are just a guide to what you can try to read during this period. It is absolutely normal if some mandatory children's books turn out to be too difficult or scary for your son or daughter, and some are simply uninteresting.
Psychologists recommend paying attention to children's books that are primarily interesting for babies. 7-year-old schoolchildren like graphic novels the most. This is especially true when it comes to the first independent reading.
The more pictures in the book and the less text, the psychologically easier it is for a child to read such a book independently. Before a solid page of text in small print, even a confident young reader is easily frightened. And be sure to take children to bookstores, book fairs, libraries, let them choose any book they like.
